Jennie Aten has studied tap for 11 years, as well as jazz for five, ballet for seven, and hip hop for three. The majority of Jennie’s tap training is under the direction of Mark Yonally. Mark is the artistic director of Chicago Tap Theatre, which is one of the most critically well-regarded tap companies in Chicago.
For five years, Jennie was a member of Footprints Tap Ensemble in the suburbs of Chicago. Footprints is a nonprofit youth ensemble that is self-directed and mentored by Mark Yonally.
She has taken classes from many master tap artists including, Diane Walker, Jason Samuels Smith, Sarah Petronio, Lane Alexander, Idella Reed, Billy Siegenfeld, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Omar Edwards, Ayodele Casel, Sam Weber, Sarah Savelli, Martin “Tre” Dumas, George Patterson, Gregg Russell, Keith Terry, Herather Cornell, Jay Fagan, Gene Medler, John Kloss, Roxane Butterfly, Michelle Dorrance, Josh Hilberman, Rocky Mendez, Dr. Jimmy Slyde, Baakari Wilder, Jumaane Taylor, Jason Janas, Lisa La Touche, Ted Levy, and Guillem Alonso.
Jennie has performed at Chicago Human Rhythm Project concerts, Warner Brothers’ “Happy Feet” movie promotional, Shedd Aquarium’s Annual Benefit, Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, and numerous other professional venues.
In 2008, Jennie danced with select Footprints in a series of concerts comprising the production Christmas Dancing Shoes at the Beijing Exhibition Center in Beijing, China.
